how to get back into reading

Hello, all! Today I’m going to be giving ideas on how to get back into reading. As a college student, I often meet people who tell me they love reading, but just can’t seem to get back into it now that they have such a busy schedule. This blog post is here to show that you CAN make time to read and can fall in love with it again, even with a busy schedule!

One of the best ways to get out of a reading slump or get back into reading after months (or maybe even years!) is to reread some of your favorite books. Reading something familiar to you is a great way to think about reading differently! Almost every summer I reread the Harry Potter series. I love doing it because they’re good books, but also because of the feelings they evoke for me. When I read them right before school starts back, it normally motivates me because of the environment the characters are in (Hogwarts!). They also just make me happy in general—I love the characters and the world built around them. Whether some of your favorite books are middle-grade level or classics, if you’re trying to start reading again, sit down and read!

Another way to get back into reading is choosing highly-recommended books. Whether the book you choose is something your friend recommended to you or a book you saw on an Instagram ad, if it’s something with a lot of good reviews, read it! It’s easy to fall back into another slump or feel like you hate reading again if you just pick any random book from your TBR pile or from the library—pick something fast paced, preferably short, and in a genre that interests you!

You can also make reading part of your “resetting” part of the day. This is one of the best ways to get out of a slump! If your normal “resetting” part of the day includes watching your favorite shows and taking a relaxing bath, try swapping out the shows for a book—I find it much more relaxing than watching a show. I like to read before bed because it helps me sleep, especially if I’m reading a book that’s a little slower (like a classic).

If you’re struggling to find a good book to help you fall in love with reading again, go check out my page on Instagram—on my IGTV channel, I have tons of book reviews! I hope you enjoyed this blog post!

Much love,

Katie
